November Update

The Structural Engineers' Report has finally been published on South Ayrshire Council's website. Full repairs come to £10m which includes a £2m contingency. There needs to be a Conservation Review and a Feasibility Study to work out what it costs to adapt the hotel to current purposes and to restore it to its former glory.

We are having a meeting to find out what various authorities plan for the Station Hotel. NetworkRail have a big influence but it would be Transport Scotland which would pay for any new build. The relative cost of new and old is probably not much different. The habit and custom at the moment is for new build. We need a greener solution to retain our great legacy.

SAVE THE STATION HOTEL

AYR STATION HOTEL COMMUNITY ACTION GROUP

Public Meeting: 7.30pm on Monday 25 November, 2019 in Ayr Town Hall. Doors open 7:00pm.

We have invited conservationists, politicians and NetworkRail to speak. It is a political decision as to whether we save the hotel or build a new glass and steel station which would cost the government £20m (add demolition at £4m+) with more costs, disruption and loss to our urban environment.

The prospects for the development of tourism are better with a grand Victorian station, particularly if we want to keep the occasional steam excursion coming. It is likely to be a cheaper option anyway.

COME ALONG, MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!

Collection for Town Hall hire.

Hi,

I worked for many years with Stakis, doing maintenance in the old building.

I know the building inside out.

when Stakis refurbished a lot of it in the late 70s, I was still serving my time and I was the one who put up several of the cast iron down pipes, that was 40 years ago.

if I can be of any help, please contact me.
