The Government would pay £20m. for a new station and it would cost over £4m. to demolish the existing combined hotel and station. It needn't cost this much. A far more viable option would be restoration. If we didn't want a large hotel, this could give Ayr a whole range of resources. This could be a smaller hotel with restaurant and cafe for passengers, perhaps function rooms where parties or wedding receptions could be held with the option of using self catering or the restaurant there etc. etc.
